Food Festival Taste of Texas offered Texas Food, Wine & Music from Around the State
The Taste of Texas Food Festival was a Texas Cuisine Manifesto! Eleven chefs joined Chef Brian West on a culinary tour of the six food regions of Texas. The general event was open to the public with food from all six regions available for individual sale. Unique flavors of “The Piney Curtain” of East Texas, “The Acadian Coast” along the Gulf, “Hill Country” of Central Texas, “Tex-Mex” of South Texas, “Cattle Country” of the North and Northwest, and “The Green Chile Line” west of The Pecos were available.
The event was held in a private courtyard of the Marriott Plaza Hotel (in front of Hemisfair & main stage) at 555 S Alamo St., in the heart of downtown.
Participating Chefs included:
- Bruce Auden, Biga on the Banks
- John Brand, Hotel Emma
- Angelina Bridges, Copa Wine Bar
- Shane Bruns, Omni La Mansión del Rio
- Andrew Gutierrez, The Art Institute of San Antonio
- Johnny Hernandez, True Flavors
- Aarron Juvera, Whiskey Cake
- Geronimo Lopez, Botika
- James Pedreaux, Grayze
- Tracey Callahan, The Traveled Chef
- Hinnerk Von Bargen, The Culinary Institute of America Texas
- Brian West, Chef & Executive Producer of Taste of Texas Culinary Event
- Jeff White, Boiler House
In addition to the exclusive tastings, local wines from Texas wineries, craft beer and spritzers were also included. Some of the wineries participating in the Taste of Texas Food Festival were: Spicewood Estates, Bending Branch, Brennan Vineyards, and Duchman Family Winery. Beers included Dos Equis, Sol Cerveza and Tecate.
The courtyard was decorated in all the bright Fiesta colors and regalia you would expect. And live music helped to keep things festive. There was even a chef’s lounge where participating chefs could enjoy a cool area out of the Texas sun and relax.
This first annual Taste of Texas Food Festival was a big hit. If you didn’t get tickets to this year’s event, I hope to see you at Taste of Texas Food Festival 2018!
**Full Disclosure: I received a ticket to the event in exchange for my coverage. All opinions are 100% mine.
