Mint Julep is THE Drink of the Kentucky Derby Every Year

Mint Julep is the Drink Everyone Wants During the Kentucky Derby so make it a Tim Tam Mint Julep

Should the Tim Tam Mint Julep be the official drink of the Kentucky Derby? To the folks in Australia it already is! In 1958, Tim Tam, an American thoroughbred, won the Kentucky Derby. The same year, a biscuit named after the winning horse found its footing in Australian culture and became a beloved staple in the land down under. Today, more than 670 million Tim Tam biscuits are made every year, with one in every two Australian households having purchased the treat.

In honor of its recent U.S. launch and the upcoming Kentucky Derby, I’m sharing an update to the classic race drink – a Frozen Tim Tam Mint Julep!

RECIPE

TO MAKE YOUR TIM TAM SALTED RIM

In your blender pulse your 1 tbsp of salt and 4 Tim Tam until you have an even fine crumble— about 30 seconds.

Pour it on your small plate.

Use your butter knife to spread a thin line of your marshmallow fluff around the rim of the glasses you plan to serve your cocktails out of.

Roll that marshmallow fluff in your salted Tim Tam mixture on your plate (like glue and glitter).

Refrigerate your rimmed glasses until you are ready to pour your cocktails.

TO MAKE YOUR TIM TAM MINT JULEP

In your blender, combine your salt, sugar, dark chocolate, mint leaves, bourbon and ice.

Blend until you have an even smoothie-like texture.

Using your wooden spoon, fold your chopped Tim Tam into your Frozen Mint Julep.

Pour your Tim Tam Mint Julep into your Salted Tim Tam rimmed glasses.

Stick a whole Tim Tam and a sprig of mint into each of your cocktails and serve.

It’s not a cookie, it’s a Tim Tam

Mint Julep

Go anywhere in Australia and you’ll feel it. That deep, raw, unbridled passion Aussies have for their Tim Tam® biscuits. That kind of love is hard to understand. Until of course, you try one. Don’t be fooled by its chocolaty, creamy, crunchy appearance though; Tim Tam® is no cookie! Sure, you can dip them in milk, leave them out for Santa, even keep them in a cookie jar, but it’s still not a cookie. Its absolute awesomeness cannot be defined.
