Red Maple’s Fall Menu at the Chequit Offers Rustic Comfort Food for Cozy Nights

Red Maple’s Fall menu is rustic and hearty! Crisp nights call for comfort food and Red Maple, Shelter Island’s modern-American restaurant and bar, is serving just what everyone is craving at this time of year with its new Fall dinner menu of locally-sourced rustic plates. Located inside The Chequit, which was recently named to the coveted Condé Nast Traveler 2016 “Hot List,” Red Maple offers a chic and cozy setting for drinking and dining.

For this season’s new menu, Executive Chef Gayle Scarberry expanded the very popular Snug Menu, which was introduced last year, brought back some old favorites and created some delicious new additions.  All are offered on a menu designed for mixing and matching large and small dishes so diners can create their ideal meal.

The new dishes on the aptly-named SNUG MENU include: the all-American combo of Grilled Cheese + Soup Of The Day, which gets the grown-up treatment with a changing daily soup and sandwich designed to complement one another.  Think Butternut Squash Soup served with a Fontina and Caramelized Onion Sandwich or Onion Soup with Melted Gruyere on a Baguette. Other mouth-watering options are Shrimp+Grits and Chicken Pot Pie. While the crowd-pleasing Mel’s Mac+Cheese, New England Clam Chowder, and the Red Maple Burger/Veggie Burger return for an encore this year. And, of course, House Cut Fries are an optional side.

Red Maple’s Fall menu BITES section includes small plates of comfort food that can shared or enjoyed on their own, such as: Shrimp Corn Dogs served in Cornbread Batter with Honey Mustard; Brisket Sliders on Mini Brioche Buns with Maple BBQ, Cheddar Cheese, Crispy Shallots; and, Smokey Cod Fritters with Tomato Tartar Sauce.  These and other new dishes join the favorites of Pretzel Bites and Chicken Croquettes.

For Red Maple’s fall menu main course, diners can choose from a new selection of seasonally satisfying MAINS including: Pork Tenderloin with Chorizo, Mashed Purple Sweet Potato, Haricots Verts, and Tamarind Sauce and Braised Beef Brisket served with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Sautéed Apple, Red Cabbage and Whole Grain Mustard Demi-Glace. On the lighter side, is a Market Fish served with Corn, Pepper, Pea and Ham Succotash or a Grilled Portobello with Quinoa, Spinach, Roasted Red Pepper, Red Onion and Goat Cheese.

With her background in pastry, Chef Scarberry’s DESSERT menu is always drool worthy and this season is no different.  Sweet choices include: Brownie Sundae with Vanilla Bean Gelato, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Sauce and Whipped Cream; Saffron + Quince Crème Brulee with Sugar Cookies; and, Coconut Snowball Cake served with Coconut Curd, Vanilla Bean Buttercream and Toasted Coconut.  Everybody loves pie, and there are two classics to choose from: Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel Topping and Vanilla Ice Cream and Sweet Potato Pecan Pie served with Caramel Ice Cream.

 ABOUT THE CHEQUIT

Located on Shelter Island, a bucolic retreat nestled between Long Island’s North and South Forks, The Chequit is a historic 37-room inn that was completely renovated in 2015 by Salt Hotels and was named to the coveted Conde Nast Traveler “Hot List” in 2016.  The inn’s design harkens back to the golden age of vacationing on Shelter Island at the turn of the last century with a crisp and contemporary interpretation. Luxurious amenities include sumptuous beds and linens, new bathrooms with rain showerheads and bath products from C.O. Bigelow and the natural, sustainable, LA-based brand Further, and a few modern conveniences like mini fridges and complimentary WIFI. The dramatic lobby serves as both the Inn’s front desk as well as the venue for Salt Hotels’ signature complimentary rustic breakfast each morning. Later in the day, the space transforms into a guest-only wine and champagne lounge that spills out onto the lushly appointed porches that overlook the nearby harbor. Dining options include Red Maple, the inn’s bar and restaurant, and White Hill Café for freshly prepared grab-and-go items and freshly brewed coffee.

The Chequit is open year round with rates starting at $195 per night including breakfast daily, Wi-Fi and parking.  For more information and reservations, please visit www.thechequit.com or call + (631) 749-0018.
