SA Fresh Offers a Fast, Fresh Lunch Menu for Culinaria’s Restaurant Week
Newly located SA Fresh is now open for dine-in lunches just in time for Culinaria Restaurant Week, August 22 -27. Owner & Chef Elliott Hayne, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY has put together an extensive menu of salads, soups and sandwiches for his dine-in clientele. He uses top quality organic ingredients sourced from local and regional growers in all his selections to assure your experience is a healthy, fresh and positive one. Although this location is new, Chef Elliott is already well-known in San Antonio for his full-service catering services and food-to-go.
Chef’s menu for restaurant week includes a soup or salad and a sandwich combo and a fresh baked cookie for only $10. For all you heartier appetite folks out there, let me just say I’m pretty sure these combos will fill you up. And parents, this place is kid friendly with PB&J, Grilled Cheese or house made Mac & Cheese which all come with a choice of fruit cup, apple sauce or chips and a drink. And yes, juice boxes are on the menu. While I was waiting to be served, there were several families dining here and everyone was enjoying their meal including the kids!
For anyone wanting a salad, I would recommend the Baby Spinach Salad. Not only does this dish look like it should grace the cover of Cooking Light magazine, this is absolutely a great way to get your daily serving of fruits and veges. Here baby spinach is mixed with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, candied chili pecans and creamy goat cheese. Toss that with a house made balsamic vinaigrette and you won’t be able to put your fork down. For an extra charge you can add grilled chicken or seared salmon to any salad.
Although I didn’t try a soup today, they sounded equally good. The selections change daily and the line-up today included cold soups of Cucumber or Hatch Avocado and warm varieties of Hatch Cheddar, Black Bean and Chicken Tortilla. I definitely need to come back for soup!
For you sandwich lovers out there just look at some of these creations Chef has crafted.
The piled high Turkey Club is so loaded with ingredients you just may have to eat it with a fork and knife. Oven-roasted turkey breast, applewood smoked bacon, Swiss, arugula, tomato, avocado all on fresh made white bread which is slithered with pesto mayo will make you want to holler THANK YOU!
I hear tell that The Cuban is really good here, as it is the top seller. Served on a French roll instead of being grilled and pressed, this sandwich is a delicious combination of mojo-braised pork, Black Forest ham, Swiss, pickled red onion, pickles and adobo verde mayo. This sammie should probably be enjoyed with a cold craft beer.
The sandwich special today was a Grilled Ham and Swiss on focaccia with a kicking chipotle aioli. I added avocado to it which put it over the moon in my opinion. (Note: this sandwich isn’t on the menu, but I told chef he needs to make room for it there.) Everything about this sandwich was wonderful and if it makes the menu cut, I highly recommend it.
And don’t fret you vegetarians, you are not forgotten. The Grilled Veggie sandwich is waiting to get in your mouth. Grilled portabella, oh so yummy oven- dried tomato, arugula, butternut squash, pickled red onion and creamy goat cheese all between two focaccia slices. Yup, you’ll be back for another one of these. I would say Chef Elliott has mastered the art of great sandwich making.
The culinary menu also includes a fresh baked cookie for your sweet finale. Selections vary daily. Note: all breads are made fresh daily and sourced from Bakery Lorraine and all cookies are sourced daily from Bird Bakery. Everything at SA Fresh is fresh, fresh, fresh daily!
SA Fresh has a selection of regular and flavored teas to choose from. I tried a coconut tea that was outstanding. They also carry an assortment of local craft beers and unique wines.
You will find a daily pick of grab-and-go items like chicken salad or pimento cheese by the pint to help simplify your lunch making as school gets started. You can even order your lunch to-go so you can take it with you to the office or brown bag it at the park instead of dining-in.
Want something simple for dinner tonight or maybe breakfast tomorrow? Check out the variety of pre-made casseroles. Choices might include; Italian Sausage Lasagna, Veggie Lasagna, Green Chicken Enchiladas, Shepherd’s Pie or Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole.
In addition, SA Fresh can handle any catering needs you may have. Office parties for upcoming holidays, block parties for neighbors night out or end of summer/back to school, private dinner parties or football game-day bash.
