Specialty Crafted Burgers, Hand-Spun Shakes, Hand-Cut Fries and Signature Cocktails Make Hopdoddy a Winner!
Sure you can get burgers at just about any restaurant in town. But is the meat ground fresh in-house daily using beef from cows that are never given hormones or antibiotics? Is the bun made from scratch and baked on the premises everyday? They are at Hopdoddy Burger Bar!
This burger bar with an unusual name is your first hint that this is more than a place to get a meat patty between two slices of bread. Coming out of Austin, TX, a city known for eco-friendly, sustainability, locally sourced and organically grown, is your second hint.
At Hopdoddy everything is ground fresh for their burgers: Angus Beef, Akaushi, Bison, Turkey, Chicken, Tuna, and even Black Beans. Their fresh made buns are classic egg, whole wheat or gluten-free.
In addition to the Classic Burger, pretty much what they would call a plain hamburger with the usual toppings of onions, lettuce, tomato, and a sassy sauce they have 11 special burgers to tempt you. Of course they have a whole selection of cheeses you can add to your Classic or you can add bacon & cheese. I guess this makes it no longer plain, right. Especially if you add Brie or Texas Goat Cheese!
Other than these crazy special burgers, they keep things pretty simple here at Hopdoddy. They have fresh cut Kennebec potato fries which you can get with different sauces like their house made BBQ sauce, Chipotle Ketchup or Honey Mustard. The Parmesan Truffle Fries with Truffle Aioli are pretty awesome and worth a try. I loved the flavor of the truffle aioli, so they were my personal favorite. Or you can opt for the Chili Con Queso or Green Chile Queso with fries.
I am a polano pepper fan, especially grilled ones, so the Llano Poblano burger really called out to me. An Angus Beef patty with apple-smoked bacon, Tillamook pepper jack cheese, seared poblanos, Chipotle mayo for just a little more heat along with red leaf lettuce, Beefsteak tomato and onion was worth the short wait. The burger was a two-handed one and so juicy, you should just wait until your are done to clean your hands and face.
Of course sipping on a thick Red Velvet Cake shake that was hand-spun using Hopdoddy’s own cinnamon vanilla custard recipe and topped with whipped cream did help curb my appetite. Nothing like ice cream before lunch! This is my kind of place, to be sure.
The Magic Shroom Burger was also a hit packed with field mushrooms, Texas Goat Cheese, Basil pesto, red leaf lettuce, white onion, Beefsteak tomato and a slathering of Mayo. All this accompanying an Angus beef patty in that fresh home-made bun, makes a perfect combo. Goat cheese, pesto and mushrooms oh my!
The Stout Chocolate shake was a good choice for the Shroom since stout has a smokey taste like the grilled mushrooms. And of course chocolate goes with anything, am I right!
And if you really need to add some extra toppings cause they just didn’t throw enough on your personal favorite, they have a whole lotta sides like; Fried Farm Egg, Apple-Smoked Bacon, Caramelized Onions, Field Mushrooms and Sliced Avocado to really get that other leg filled up.
Hopdoddy also carries a nice selection of local brews, some on draft. And they have their own signature sips from Margaritas, Tinis, Bloody Mary’s and hard Limeade if your aren’t into beer. There is also a small selection of wines if that’s how you roll.
Looking over the burger part of the menu once again, I soon realized there isn’t a burger I wouldn’t want to try. Every one of them sounded so good, I am going to have to come back here often so I can try them all.
