Gallop Over to Whiskey Cake for a Weeklong Kentucky Derby Party
Bartender Challenge, $5 juleps and Hot Brown hit the starting gate Monday
Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar invites colts and fillies of all stripes to join them in celebrating Derby Day – and they’re firing the starting gun early with $5 juleps beginning Monday.
The first-annual Julep Bartender Challenge gets off to the races on May 2, when Whiskey Cake’s expert bar staff starts serving up their own original julep recipes inspired by racing’s biggest day. Guests will receive a ticket with each specially made julep purchase that can be used to vote for their favorite.
The mouthwatering juleps that will be Running for the Roses are:
- Amber Spiced Apple Julep: Muddled Granny Smith apples, mint, Old Forester, Lairds Apple Brandy, cinnamon simple syrup, ango and apple bitters
- SassaMolasses Julep: Woodford Reserve, mint, Barbados Molasses Syrup, Woodford Sassafras and Sorghum bitters
- Chaituckey Turby Julep: Old Forester, chai tea, Orange Zest Turbinado Simple Syrup, mint, old-fashioned bitters and orange bitters
Saturday, May 7, is the day to arrive at Whiskey Cake decked out in your fanciest Derby Day attire – big feathered hat and all – and join other race fans in cheering on your favorite contenders (bartender and horse).
Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about food. Whiskey Cake’s juleps will pair perfectly with a delicious Hot Brown, expertly crafted with marinated and braised turkey thighs piled high on toasted sourdough bread and topped with pan jus, Dublin karst cheese fondue, a local heirloom tomato and applewood bacon relish.
That’s right…Whiskey Cake ain’t horsing around! It’s a lineup too good to save for one day, so come by any time May 2 – 7 for a Derby Day experience to remember!
Whiskey Cake is renowned for serving up tasty farm-to-kitchen dishes and cocktails out of its “from scratch only” kitchen and bar. Microwave? Never heard of it. Whiskey Cake uses slow-cooking methods on a live wood grill, smoker and spit because everything tastes better that way. And all that goodness is served while you kick your feet up in a rocking chair, while dining at a fancy table or as you relax out on the porch.
Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar is located at 15900 Via La Cantera, in The Shops at La Cantera in San Antonio, as well as in Plano and Oklahoma City. Visit whiskey-cake.com for hours, directions, food and drinks menu and more information.
