California Pizza Kitchen Starts Their “Next Chapter” Transformation with New & Expanded Menu
We love CPK right! But why do we love it? Because of their wood-fired pizzas with all the unique and wonderful toppings. They started a craze of not-so-traditional toppings like Thai Chicken, Pear and Gorgonzola, and BBQ Chicken that took the country by storm and had other pizza places scrambling to change. With pizza and California in the name we expected nothing less. And with hand tossed dough, fresh chopped toppings and global flavors, their pizzas are still a customer favorite.
Now we have even more reason to love CPK with their “Next Chapter” expanded menu of great tastes. They realize not everyone wants a pizza, or at least not all the time. CPK has expanded their menu to include new diverse entrees, appetizers and sides to compliment their already popular culinary creations. Inventive dishes made with the same fresh high-quality seasonal ingredients they use for their classic customer favorites. Dishes they have spent months perfecting, testing, tasting and revising until they were sure they would be a hit. Robust dishes so full of flavor customers would want to lick the plate, or at the very least, try to bribe the chef for the recipe.
So after munching on crusty Italian bread with some of the best, most flavorful garlic and herb olive oil this food blogger has had in a long time, I am ready to dig into one of these dishes.
Their “Next Chapter” transformation includes entrees like Roasted Garlic Chicken. Now I know you have heard me rave about dishes before but I don’t rave unless I really mean it. So let me just start off by saying you have to try the Roasted Garlic Chicken with seasonal vegetables. Mark my words, this pan-seared chicken breast has a lick your plate delicious lemon-garlic sauce that will bring you back to California Pizza Kitchen again and again. Nestled with hearth roasted potatoes, baby carrots and cauliflower with Mediterranean herbs, you won’t be able to put your fork down. This chicken will be your go-to comfort meal on a rainy day or that dish you won’t be able to get out of your head. This dish pairs well with a nice medium bodied red wine.
With their focus also on hand-crafted cocktails, I paired the chicken with a refreshing Orchard Sangria because I just had to try one of these new libations. Not only a beautiful drink to look at filled with oranges, limes, apples and blueberries, it is also a beautiful harvest of flavors. With white wine, St. Germain Elderflower, Monin Stone Fruit and orange & cranberry juice, this cocktail is alive with flavor.
The Fire-Grilled Ribeye, another “Next Chapter” main dish, is a 12 oz. USDA choice steak that is juicy, tender and everything you want in a steak. There is enough marbling to give it great flavor and they cook it to your preference. Topped with bleu cheese butter and a sprinkling of house-made Pinot Noir Sea Salt adds another level of savoriness. Served with a lemon-garlic wild arugula salad and roasted fingerling potatoes, this dish is a must try when you are in the mood for a good steak.
I would pair it with the Blueberry Ginger Smash which is a Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey cocktail. Many people like a nice oakey Cabernet with their steak. I think steaks should also be enjoyed with a nice whiskey cocktail. The Domaine de Canton Ginger, muddled blueberries and lime, agave nectar and cranberry juice all combine to make a slightly sweet yet tart aspect to this sultry drink.
Want dessert? Of course you do! A must try that is deliciousness on all levels is the Butter Cake. If a pound cake married a sugar cookie this is what you would get. Warm buttery soft goodness on the inside and a crusty, crunchy crust on the outside, this is just a darn good dessert. Top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you will be in dessert nirvana.
Rather have pudding instead of cake? How does Salted Caramel pudding atop dark cocoa cookie crumbles sound? Add to that fresh house-made whipped cream drizzled in caramel sauce and sprinkled with a touch of flaky sea salt and you have the perfect dessert to bring this already great meal to a close.
