Find Great Award-Winning Wines Easily and at Great Discounts
I love great wines but hate the search. I find myself spending hours every month reading labels and those little descriptive cards in stores telling me how wonderful a wine is, getting it home and being disappointed. And I know I’m not the only one doing this because I’ve had this discussion with others.
I wish I had my own personal wine sommelier helping me make the best wine choices at all times. This way I could always enjoy award-winning wines, pair them with the perfect meal, and even be able to tell my friends a little about the wine & winery. This would be a perfect wine scenario, right!
Well I just found the next best thing to having my own personal sommelier. It’s called the Gold Medal Wine Club. They have earned the reputation of being America’s leading Independent wine club. By searching for outstanding wine from the best family-owned wineries in California, Oregon, Washington and around the world, they take the guess work out of the equation. I no longer have to be disappointed when I pop a cork.
Imagine always opening a superb wine that has been delivered right to your door. A wine that has already earned top medals at major wine competitions or been highly rated by national publications. They are never close out wines, bulk wines or private label stock. And even better news, as a member of the Gold Medal Wine Club, you can get these great wines at great prices.
My gift box included two wines from the Gold Series program, one red and one white, delivered in a beautiful artistic box from their collectible Artist Series. This box art of a wine country scene was from commissioned artist Greg Sobran “en plein air” landscape painter. Each bottle was individually wrapped in a presentable organza cloth bag tied with a satin ribbon. Also included in the box was a welcome card and a newsletter telling about the wines, the winery and even the wine region.
My wines were both from Castoro Cellars located in Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast, an area that produces outstanding wines. Castoro Cellars is one of the oldest and best known wineries in this appellation producing many different wine varietals, most produced in small quantities and many racking up awards for the winery.
I like both red and white wines depending on seasons and meals, so receiving one of each worked out fine for me. However if you prefer only reds or only whites, this option is available from the Gold Medal Wine Club.
The 2013 Reserve Pasofusion is a fine red wine that comes together by fusing the best fruit of the Paso Robles region – berry motes from the East, structure and spiciness from the West. This hearty red with notes of stone fruit and spice, layered with complexity yet softened by oak barrel aging is best enjoyed with hearty foods like rustic pastas or backyard BBQ. 2013 Reserve Pasofusion can be savored now or set aside for future enjoyment.
The 2014 Cuvée Blanc is a smooth, aromatic blend of some of the best varietals from Castoro Cellers finest Central Coast vineyards. This Rhône-style white offers a fruit flavored palate, bringing nice acidity with a lingering finish. Notes of grilled pineapple, mangoes, orange zest along with floral aromas make this a perfect wine for delicate fish entrées, chicken scallopini, or paired with soft cheese. I loved this wine and would love to have several bottles for my summer al fresco get togethers on the patio.
Here is a recipe for Lemon Butter Seared Scallops to pair with the 2014 Cuvée Blanc

Both Castoro Cellar’s wines were excellent wines which I would probably never have been introduced to had it not been for the Gold Medal Wine Club. No more wasting money and being disappointed in wines that sound wonderful but aren’t.
