The Richest, Creamiest Ice Cream Ever Can Now be Found in Central Markets All Over Texas
**Full Disclosure: I received product in exchange for my review. All opinions are mine.
If you are lucky enough to have grown up with the enjoyment of hand-cranked ice cream at summer family get togethers, you will remember the fresh sweet taste of rich cream along with fresh ingredients like home-grown fruits and nuts. You had to be sure to eat this frozen treat as soon as it came out of the ice cream maker because it would melt pretty fast an turn back into cream. Awww… those were the good old days, right!
Well I have some wonderful news for you my Texas friends! McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams has brought the joy of having home-churned ice cream back into our lives and to our family gatherings without the work.
McConnell’s is still making ice cream from scratch, in small batches, with Central Coast, grass-grazed milk & cream they pasteurize from raw at their creamery at The Old Dairy (c. 1934) like they did when they first opened in 1949. They haven’t changed a thing because, well, why change a good thing. They also use the finest local, sustainable and organic, raw ingredients, sourced from partner farms, artisans and purveyors they’ve been working with, in many cases, for decades. So yes, they are still churning up the best ice cream pretty much the old fashioned way in One-of-A-Kind Hot-Rodded Ice Cream Machines (legendary hybrid French Pot Process).
I found out they even make many of their jams, preserves, chocolates, caramels, cold-brewed coffee, crumbles and crisps in house. So they have quality control on everything that goes into their ice cream. I like this idea.
The quality and rich taste of McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams shows because:
- They use the finest, 100% natural ingredients, locally sourced and organic where possible.
- Their products are hormone & antibiotic free (no rBST/rBGH).
- They have steered clear of any and all stabilizers, preservatives, fillers or additives (no gums, starches, syrups, etc.), of any kind.
- Their product has 18.5% milk fat percentage (other artisanal have 14-15%).
- They make everything from scratch.
And just look at some of the decadent flavors they make:
- Sea Salt Cream & Cookies
- Eureka Lemon & Marionberries
- Salted Caramel Chip
- Summer Fruit Cobbler
Which one would you dig into first? I have to say everyone at my workplace was loving the Eureka Lemon & Marionberries. It had a burst of both flavors that combined to make a great summer dessert treat. All the flavors tasted just like their names and all were consistently just like I would expect hand-churned ice cream to taste. And every flavor I sampled had loads of ingredients in them; berries, caramel and cookies. I say try all of their flavors until you find your own personal favorite.
If you happen to live in an area that doesn’t have McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream I want you to know you can order it online and they will ship it to your doorstep via UPS overnight, 2-Day, or ground shipping. That’s how they shipped it to me and the packing and dry ice kept it so cold it was still hard as a rock when it arrived.
And just a word of caution! This ice cream is just like hand-cranked ice cream, so once you dish it into your bowl, you need to eat it pretty fast or it will melt. (Like I have to tell you to eat it fast, lol). The quick melt just tells you it’s quality, made from scratch, ice cream just like we used to make at home!
So go buy some McConnell’s and let me know what you think!
